Shopping on-line?

On-Line Shopping?
You could be on the losing side of the line!
We received complaint from a Student who is proceeding to the U.S. for Masters. We have all details of this complaint and assure to publish the reply from www.Indiaplaza.in - in case they have any?
As the books are cheaper in India, the student decided to purchase books in India on-line.
In the First attempt he found www.Indiaplaza.in
In the First attempt the site displayed availability of all the books which he required!!
The site also committed to dispatch the ordered books within 3 working days!!!
The Student made the entire payment through Credit card for all the books he required and than started the ‘WAIT’. No panic since he had sufficient time in hand.
The on-line status of his ‘order’ showed ‘Shipped’ and hence no tension.
His first shock came when he received only one of the 5 books ordered for.
There after he made repeated phone calls on the Bangalore number mentioned only to be told that the books are not in stock hence it will take time.
Today the Student starts his travel with only 2 of the 5 ‘ORDERED & PAID for’ books.
The QUESTIONS:
1. If he purchases books from the market does he not pay 2 times for the same book?
2. If the books delivered LATE are couriered to him in America, it will cost his family min. Rs. 500/Kg. Making the books more costly here then in the U.S.?
3. What if his classes start and his books are not delivered?
4. Why did Indiaplaza keep the student in dark?
5. Why did Indiaplaza collect payment for the books which they did not have ready for despatch?
6. How does Indiaplaza compensate the student for the mental agony he has been subjected to?

what has Indiaplaza to say?

What is the Problem ?

THINK FOR A WHILE

Is Poverty lack of MONEY?
We are not that cash starved but still Why are we POOR?
LETS SEE
The difference between the poor and the rich countries
--- is not the AGE of the country -----

Countries like India & Egypt, are more than 2000 years old
and are still poor While on the other hand, Canada, Australia & New Zealand, that 150 years ago were inexpressive, are today developed and rich countries .

The difference between poor & rich countries not because of --- their available Natural Resources -----

Japan has a limited territory, 80% is mountainous, inadequate
for agriculture & cattle raising, but it is the second largest in world economy. Japan is like an immense floating factory, importing raw material from all over the world and exporting manufactured products all over the world.

Another example is Switzerland, which does not plant cocoa but provides the best chocolates to the world.
In its little territory they raise animals and plant the soil during 4 months per year. They produce dairy products of the best quality.
It is a small country that transmits an image of security, order & labor, which has made it the world’s strong safe.

Executives from rich countries who communicate with their counterparts in poor countries show that there is no significant intellectual difference between people of rich & poor countries.

Race or skin colour are also not important: immigrants labeled lazy in their country of origin become the productive power in rich European countries.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE THEN ?

The difference is the attitude of the people, framed along the years.

On analyzing the behavior of the people in rich & developed countries, we find that a great majority follow the following principles in their lives:

1. Ethics, as a basic principle.
2. Integrity.
3. Responsibility.
4. Respect to the laws & rules.
5. Respect to the rights of other citizens.6. Work loving.
7. Strive for saving & investment.
8. Will of super action.
9. Punctuality.

In poor countries, only a small section of the people follow these basic principles in their daily life.

We are not poor because we lack natural resources or because nature was cruel to us.
We are poor because we lack attitude.
We lack the will to comply with and teach these functional principles of rich & developed societies.

If you love your country and the people of India
If you want India to become a rich nation
We need to communicate this message to as many people as possible so that every body could
ANALYSE – THINK – ACT - CHANGE

Note: Just to remind you again that here richness is not in terms of MONEY.
It is in terms of richness of personality, richness of happiness, richness of
contentment ..... richness of life.

GROUND WATER

UNDERSTANDING - Ground water
Earth's Water: Ground water

What is ground water?
Ground water is the part of precipitation that seeps down through the soil until it reaches rock material that is saturated with water. Ground water slowly moves underground, generally at a downward angle (because of gravity), and may eventually seep into streams, lakes, and oceans.

The ground is saturated below the water table. The ground above the water table may be wet to a certain degree, but it does not stay saturated. The dirt and rock in the unsaturated zone contain air and some water and support the vegetation on the Earth. The saturated zone below the water table has water that fills the tiny spaces (pores) between rock particles and the cracks (fractures) of the rocks.
Why is there ground water?
A couple of important factors are responsible for the existence of ground water:
(1) Gravity
Nothing surprising here - gravity pulls water toward the center of the Earth. That means that water on the surface will try to seep into the ground below it.
(2)The rock below the Earth's surface is the bedrock. If all bedrock consisted of a dense material like solid granite, then even gravity would have a hard time pulling water downward. But Earth's bedrock consists of many types of rock, such as sandstone, granite, and limestone. Bedrocks have varying amounts of void spaces in them where ground water accumulates. Bedrock can also become broken and fractured - creating spaces that can fill with water. And some bedrock, such as limestone are dissolved by water -- which results in large cavities that fill with water.
In many places, if you looked at a vertical cross-section of the earth you would see that rock is laid down in layers, especially in areas of sedimentary rocks. Some layers have rocks that are more porous than others, and here water moves more freely (in a horizontal manner) through the earth. Sometimes when building a road, water can be seen seeping out through the exposed layers.
Try as it might, gravity doesn't pull water all the way to the center of the Earth. Deep in the bedrock there are rock layers made of dense material, such as granite, or material that water has a hard time penetrating, such as clay. These layers may be underneath the porous rock layers and, thus, act as a confining layer to retard the vertical movement of water. Since it is more difficult for the water to go any deeper, it tends to pool in the porous layers and flow in a more horizontal direction across the aquifer toward an exposed surface-water body, like a river.
Visualize it this way: get two sponges and lay one on top of the other. Pour water (precipitation) on top and it will seep through the top sponge downward into the bottom sponge. If you stopped adding water, the top sponge would dry up and, as the water dripped out of the bottom sponge, it would dry up too. Now, put a piece of plastic wrap between the sponges, creating your "confining layer" (making the bottom sponge an impermeable rock layer that is too dense to allow water to flow through it). Now when you pour water on the top sponge, the water will seep downward until it hits the plastic wrap. The top sponge will become saturated, and when the water hits the plastic wrap it won't be able to seep into the second sponge. Instead, it will start flowing sideways and come out at the edges of the sponge (horizontal flow of ground water). This happens in the earth all the time -- and it is an important part of the water cycle.

aqueduct--a pipe, conduit, or channel designed to transport water from a remote source, usually by gravity.
aquifer--a geologic formation(s) that is water bearing. A geological formation or structure that stores and/or transmits water, such as to wells and springs. Use of the term is usually restricted to those water-bearing formations capable of yielding water in sufficient quantity to constitute a usable supply for people's uses.
aquifer (confined)--soil or rock below the land surface that is saturated with water. There are layers of impermeable material both above and below it and it is under pressure so that when the aquifer is penetrated by a well, the water will rise above the top of the aquifer.
aquifer (unconfined)--an aquifer whose upper water surface (water table) is at atmospheric pressure, and thus is able to rise and fall.
artesian water--ground water that is under pressure when tapped by a well and is able to rise above the level at which it is first encountered. It may or may not flow out at ground level. The pressure in such an aquifer commonly is called artesian pressure, and the formation containing artesian water is an artesian aquifer or confined aquifer.
artificial recharge--an process where water is put back into ground-water storage from surface-water supplies such as irrigation, or induced infiltration from streams or wells.

B Base flow--stream flow coming from ground-water seepage into a stream.
Base--a substance that has a pH of more than 7, which is neutral. A base has less free hydrogen ions (H+) than hydroxyl ions (OH-).
Bedrock--the solid rock beneath the soil and superficial rock. A general term for solid rock that lies beneath soil, loose sediments, or other unconsolidated material.

C capillary action--the means by which liquid moves through the porous spaces in a solid, such as soil, plant roots, and the capillary blood vessels in our bodies due to the forces of adhesion, cohesion, and surface tension. Capillary action is essential in carrying substances and nutrients from one place to another in plants and animals.
Condensation--the process of water vapor in the air turning into liquid water. Water drops on the outside of a cold glass of water are condensed water. Condensation is the opposite process of evaporation.
Consumptive use--that part of water withdrawn that is evaporated, transpired by plants, incorporated into products or crops, consumed by humans or livestock, or otherwise removed from the immediate water environment. Also referred to as water consumed.
Conveyance loss--water that is lost in transit from a pipe, canal, or ditch by leakage or evaporation. Generally, the water is not available for further use; however, leakage from an irrigation ditch, for example, may percolate to a ground-water source and be available for further use.
Cubic feet per second (cfs)--a rate of the flow, in streams and rivers, for example. It is equal to a volume of water one foot high and one foot wide flowing a distance of one foot in one second. One "cfs" is equal to 7.48 gallons of water flowing each second. As an example, if your car's gas tank is 2 feet by 1 foot by 1 foot (2 cubic feet), then gas flowing at a rate of 1 cubic foot/second would fill the tank in two seconds.

D Desalinization--the removal of salts from saline water to provide freshwater.
Discharge--the volume of water that passes a given location within a given period of time. Usually expressed in cubic feet per second.
domestic water use--water used for household purposes, such as drinking, food preparation, bathing, washing clothes, dishes, and dogs, flushing toilets, and watering lawns and gardens. Most of the domestic water is delivered to homes by a public-supply facility.
Drainage basin--land area where precipitation runs off into streams, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. It is a land feature that can be identified by tracing a line along the highest elevations between two areas on a map, often a ridge. Large drainage basins, contain thousands of smaller drainage basins. Also called a "watershed."
Drip irrigation--a common irrigation method where pipes or tubes filled with water slowly drip onto crops. Drip irrigation is a low-pressure method of irrigation and less water is lost to evaporation than high-pressure Spray Irrigation.
Drawdown--a lowering of the ground-water surface caused by pumping.

E Effluent--water that flows from a sewage treatment plant after it has been treated.
erosion--the process in which a material is worn away by a stream of liquid (water) or air, often due to the presence of abrasive particles in the stream.

Evapotranspiration--the sum of evaporation and transpiration.

F Flood--An overflow of water onto lands that are used or usable by man and not normally covered by water. Floods have two essential characteristics: The inundation of land is temporary; and the land is adjacent to and inundated by overflow from a river, stream, lake, or ocean.
Flood plain--a strip of relatively flat and normally dry land alongside a stream, river, or lake that is covered by water during a flood.
Flood stage--The elevation at which overflow of the natural banks of a stream or body of water begins in the reach or area in which the elevation is measured.
Flowing well/spring--a well or spring that taps ground water under pressure so that water rises without pumping. If the water rises above the surface, it is known as a flowing well.

Ground water, unconfined--water in an aquifer that has a water table that is exposed to the atmosphere.

H Hardness--a water-quality indication of the concentration of alkaline salts in water, mainly calcium and magnesium. If the water you use is "hard" then more soap, detergent or shampoo is necessary to raise lather.
Headwater--(1) the source and upper reaches of a stream; also the upper reaches of a reservoir. (2) The water upstream from a structure or point on a stream. (3) The small streams that come together to form a river. Also may be thought of as any and all parts of a river basin except the mainstream river and main tributaries.
Hydroelectric power water use--the use of water in the generation of electricity at plants where the turbine generators are driven by falling water.

Mining water use--water use during quarrying rocks and extracting minerals from the land.

N nephelometric turbidity unit (NTU)--unit of measure for the turbidity of water. Essentially, a measure of the cloudiness of water as measured by a nephelometer. Turbidity is based on the amount of light that is reflected off particles in the water.
Non-point source (NPS) pollution--pollution discharged over a wide land area, not from one specific location. These are forms of diffuse pollution caused by sediment, nutrients, organic and toxic substances originating from land-use activities, which are carried to lakes and streams by surface runoff. Non-point source pollution is contamination that occurs when rainwater, snowmelt, or irrigation washes off plowed fields, city streets, or suburban backyards. As this runoff moves across the land surface, it picks up soil particles and pollutants, such as nutrients and pesticides.

O Organic matter--plant and animal residues, or substances made by living organisms. All are based upon carbon compounds.
Osmosis--the movement of water molecules through a thin membrane. The osmosis process occurs in our bodies and is also one method of desalinizing saline water.
Outfall--the place where a sewer, drain, or stream discharges; the outlet or structure through which reclaimed water or treated effluent is finally discharged to a receiving water body.
Oxygen demand--the need for molecular oxygen to meet the needs of biological and chemical processes in water. Even though very little oxygen will dissolve in water, it is extremely important in biological and chemical processes.

P pH--a measure of the relative acidity or alkalinity of water. Water with a pH of 7 is neutral; lower pH levels indicate increasing acidity, while pH levels higher than 7 indicate increasingly basic solutions.
Particle size--the diameter, in millimeters, of suspended sediment or bed material. Particle-size classifications are:
[1] Clay—0.00024-0.004 millimeters (mm);
[2] Silt—0.004-0.062 mm;
[3] Sand—0.062-2.0 mm; and
[4] Gravel—2.0-64.0 mm.
Parts per billion--the number of "parts" by weight of a substance per billion parts of water. Used to measure extremely small concentrations.
Parts per million--the number of "parts" by weight of a substance per million parts of water. This unit is commonly used to represent pollutant concentrations.
Pathogen--a disease-producing agent; usually applied to a living organism. Generally, any viruses, bacteria, or fungi that cause disease.
Peak flow--the maximum instantaneous discharge of a stream or river at a given location. It usually occurs at or near the time of maximum stage.
Per capita use--the average amount of water used per person during a standard time period, generally per day.
Percolation--(1) The movement of water through the openings in rock or soil. (2) The entrance of a portion of the stream flow into the channel materials to contribute to ground water replenishment.
Permeability--the ability of a material to allow the passage of a liquid, such as water through rocks. Permeable materials, such as gravel and sand, allow water to move quickly through them, whereas impermeable material, such as clay, doesn’t allow water to flow freely.
Point-source pollution--water pollution coming from a single point, such as a sewage-outflow pipe.
polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)--a group of synthetic, toxic industrial chemical compounds once used in making paint and electrical transformers, which are chemically inert and not biodegradable. PCBs were frequently found in industrial wastes, and subsequently found their way into surface and ground waters. As a result of their persistence, they tend to accumulate in the environment. In terms of streams and rivers, PCBs are drawn to sediment, to which they attach and can remain virtually indefinitely. Although virtually banned at most places, they continue to appear in the flesh of fish and other animals.
Porosity--a measure of the water-bearing capacity of subsurface rock. With respect to water movement, it is not just the total magnitude of porosity that is important, but the size of the voids and the extent to which they are interconnected, as the pores in a formation may be open, or interconnected, or closed and isolated. For example, clay may have a very high porosity with respect to potential water content, but it constitutes a poor medium as an aquifer because the pores are usually so small.
Potable water--water of a quality suitable for drinking.
Precipitation--rain, snow, hail, sleet, dew, and frost.
Primary wastewater treatment--the first stage of the wastewater-treatment process where mechanical methods, such as filters and scrapers, are used to remove pollutants. Solid material in sewage also settles out in this process.

Reservoir--a pond, lake, or basin, either natural or artificial, for the storage, regulation, and control of water.
Return flow--(1) That part of a diverted flow that is not consumptively used and returned to its original source or another body of water. (2) (Irrigation) Drainage water from irrigated farmlands that re-enters the water system to be used further downstream.
Return flow (irrigation)--irrigation water that is applied to an area and which is not consumed in evaporation or transpiration and returns to a surface stream or aquifer.
Reverse osmosis--(1) (Desalination) The process of removing salts from water using a membrane. With reverse osmosis, the product water passes through a fine membrane that the salts are unable to pass through, while the salt waste (brine) is removed and disposed. This process differs from electro dialysis, where the salts are extracted from the feed water by using a membrane with an electrical current to separate the ions. The positive ions go through one membrane, while the negative ions flow through a different membrane, leaving the end product of freshwater. (2) (Water Quality) An advanced method of water or wastewater treatment that relies on a semi-permeable membrane to separate waters from pollutants. An external force is used to reverse the normal osmotic process resulting in the solvent moving from a solution of higher concentration to one of lower concentration.
River--A natural stream of water of considerable volume, larger than a brook or creek.
Run off--(1) That part of the precipitation, snow melt, or irrigation water that appears in uncontrolled surface streams, rivers, drains or sewers. Runoff may be classified according to speed of appearance after rainfall or melting snow as direct runoff or base runoff, and according to source as surface runoff, storm interflow, or ground-water runoff. (2) The total discharge described in (1), above, during a specified period of time. (3) Also defined as the depth to which a drainage area would be covered if all of the runoff for a given period of time were uniformly distributed over it.

S Saline water--water that contains significant amounts of dissolved solids.
Here are our parameters for saline water:
Fresh water - Less than 1,000 parts per million (ppm)
Slightly saline water - From 1,000 ppm to 3,000 ppm
Moderately saline water - From 3,000 ppm to 10,000 ppm
Highly saline water - From 10,000 ppm to 35,000 ppm
secondary wastewater treatment--treatment (following primary wastewater treatment) involving the biological process of reducing suspended, colloidal, and dissolved organic matter in effluent from primary treatment systems and which generally removes 80 to 95 percent of the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and suspended matter. Secondary wastewater treatment may be accomplished by biological or chemical-physical methods. Activated sludge and trickling filters are two of the most common means of secondary treatment. It is accomplished by bringing together waste, bacteria, and oxygen in trickling filters or in the activated sludge process. These treatments remove floating and settle able solids and about 90 percent of the oxygen-demanding substances and suspended solids. Disinfection is the final stage of secondary treatment.
Sediment--usually applied to material in suspension in water or recently deposited from suspension. In the plural the word is applied to all kinds of deposits from the waters of streams, lakes, or seas.
Sedimentary rock--rock formed of sediment, and specifically: (1) sandstone and shale, formed of fragments of other rock transported from their sources and deposited in water; and (2) rocks formed by or from secretions of organisms, such as most limestone. Many sedimentary rocks show distinct layering, which is the result of different types of sediment being deposited in succession.
Sedimentation tanks--wastewater tanks in which floating wastes are skimmed off and settled solids are removed for disposal.
Self-supplied water--water withdrawn from a surface- or ground-water source by a user rather than being obtained from a public supply. An example would be homeowners getting their water from their own well.
Seepage--(1) The slow movement of water through small cracks, pores, Interstices, etc., of a material into or out of a body of surface or subsurface water. (2) The loss of water by infiltration into the soil from a canal, ditches, laterals, watercourse, reservoir, storage facilities, or other body of water, or from a field.
Septic tank--a tank used to detain domestic wastes to allow the settling of solids prior to distribution to a leach field for soil absorption. Septic tanks are used when a sewer line is not available to carry them to a treatment plant. A settling tank in which settled sludge is in immediate contact with sewage flowing through the tank, and wherein solids are decomposed by anaerobic bacterial action.
Settling pond (water quality)--an open lagoon into which wastewater contaminated with solid pollutants is placed and allowed to stand. The solid pollutants suspended in the water sink to the bottom of the lagoon and the liquid is allowed to overflow out of the enclosure.
Sewage treatment plant--a facility designed to receive the wastewater from domestic sources and to remove materials that damage water quality and threaten public health and safety when discharged into receiving streams or bodies of water. The substances removed are classified into four basic areas:
[1] greases and fats;
[2] solids from human waste and other sources;
[3] dissolved pollutants from human waste and decomposition products; and
[4] dangerous microorganisms.
Most facilities employ a combination of mechanical removal steps and bacterial decomposition to achieve the desired results. Chlorine is often added to discharges from the plants to reduce the danger of spreading disease by the release of pathogenic bacteria.
Sewer--a system of underground pipes that collect and deliver wastewater to treatment facilities or streams.
Sinkhole--a depression in the Earth's surface caused by dissolving of underlying limestone, salt, or gypsum. Drainage is provided through underground channels that may be enlarged by the collapse of a cavern roof.
Solute--a substance that is dissolved in another substance, thus forming a solution.
Solution--a mixture of a solvent and a solute. In some solutions, such as sugar water, the substances mix so thoroughly that the solute cannot be seen. But in other solutions, such as water mixed with dye, the solution is visibly changed.
Solvent--a substance that dissolves other substances, thus forming a solution. Water dissolves more substances than any other, and is known as the "universal solvent".
Specific conductance--a measure of the ability of water to conduct an electrical current as measured using a 1-cm cell and expressed in units of electrical conductance, i.e., Siemens per centimeter at 25 degrees Celsius. Specific conductance can be used for approximating the total dissolved solids content of water by testing its capacity to carry an electrical current. In water quality, specific conductance is used in ground water monitoring as an indication of the presence of ions of chemical substances that may have been released by a leaking landfill or other waste storage or disposal facility. A higher specific conductance in water drawn from down gradient wells when compared to up gradient wells indicates possible contamination from the facility.
Spray irrigation--A common irrigation method where water is shot from high-pressure sprayers onto crops. Because water is shot high into the air onto crops, some water is lost to evaporation.
Storm sewer--a sewer that carries only surface runoff, street wash, and snow melt from the land. In a separate sewer system, storm sewers are completely separate from those that carry domestic and commercial wastewater (sanitary sewers).
Stream--a general term for a body of flowing water; natural water course containing water at least part of the year. In hydrology, it is generally applied to the water flowing in a natural channel as distinct from a canal.
Stream flow--the water discharge that occurs in a natural channel. A more general term than runoff, stream flow may be applied to discharge whether or not it is affected by diversion or regulation.
Subsidence--a dropping of the land surface as a result of ground water being pumped. Cracks and fissures can appear in the land. Subsidence is virtually an irreversible process.
Surface tension--the attraction of molecules to each other on a liquid's surface. Thus, a barrier is created between the air and the liquid.
Surface water--water that is on the Earth's surface, such as in a stream, river, lake, or reservoir.
Suspended sediment--very fine soil particles that remain in suspension in water for a considerable period of time without contact with the bottom. Such material remains in suspension due to the upward components of turbulence and currents and/or by suspension.
Suspended-sediment concentration--the ratio of the mass of dry sediment in a water-sediment mixture to the mass of the water-sediment mixture. Typically expressed in milligrams of dry sediment per liter of water-sediment mixture.
suspended-sediment discharge--the quantity of suspended sediment passing a point in a stream over a specified period of time. When expressed in tons per day, it is computed by multiplying water discharge (in cubic feet per second) by the suspended-sediment concentration (in milligrams per liter) and by the factor 0.0027.
suspended solids--solids that are not in true solution and that can be removed by filtration. Such suspended solids usually contribute directly to turbidity. Defined in waste management, these are small particles of solid pollutants that resist separation by conventional methods.

T tertiary wastewater treatment--selected biological, physical, and chemical separation processes to remove organic and inorganic substances that resist conventional treatment practices; the additional treatment of effluent beyond that of primary and secondary treatment methods to obtain a very high quality of effluent. The complete wastewater treatment process typically involves a three-phase process: (1) First, in the primary wastewater treatment process, which incorporates physical aspects, untreated water is passed through a series of screens to remove solid wastes; (2) Second, in the secondary wastewater treatment process, typically involving biological and chemical processes, screened wastewater is then passed a series of holding and aeration tanks and ponds; and (3) Third, the tertiary wastewater treatment process consists of flocculation basins, clarifiers, filters, and chlorine basins or ozone or ultraviolet radiation processes.
thermal pollution--a reduction in water quality caused by increasing its temperature, often due to disposal of waste heat from industrial or power generation processes. Thermally polluted water can harm the environment because plants and animals can have a hard time adapting to it.
thermoelectric power water use--water used in the process of the generation of thermoelectric power. Power plants that burn coal and oil are examples of thermoelectric-power facilities.
transmissibility (ground water)--the capacity of a rock to transmit water under pressure. The coefficient of transmissibility is the rate of flow of water, at the prevailing water temperature, in gallons per day, through a vertical strip of the aquifer one foot wide, extending the full saturated height of the aquifer under a hydraulic gradient of 100-percent. A hydraulic gradient of 100-percent means a one foot drop in head in one foot of flow distance.
transpiration--process by which water that is absorbed by plants, usually through the roots, is evaporated into the atmosphere from the plant surface, such as leaf pores.
Tributary--a smaller river or stream that flows into a larger river or stream. Usually, a number of smaller tributaries merge to form a river.
turbidity--the amount of solid particles that are suspended in water and that cause light rays shining through the water to scatter. Thus, turbidity makes the water cloudy or even opaque in extreme cases. Turbidity is measured in nephelometric turbidity units (NTU).

U unsaturated zone--the zone immediately below the land surface where the pores contain both water and air, but are not totally saturated with water. These zones differ from an aquifer, where the pores are saturated with water.

W wastewater--water that has been used in homes, industries, and businesses that is not for reuse unless it is treated.
wastewater-treatment return flow--water returned to the environment by wastewater-treatment facilities.
water cycle--the circuit of water movement from the oceans to the atmosphere and to the Earth and return to the atmosphere through various stages or processes such as precipitation, interception, runoff, infiltration, percolation, storage, evaporation, and transportation.
water quality--a term used to describe the chemical, physical, and biological characteristics of water, usually in respect to its suitability for a particular purpose.
water table--the top of the water surface in the saturated part of an aquifer.
water use--water that is used for a specific purpose, such as for domestic use, irrigation, or industrial processing. Water use pertains to human's interaction with and influence on the hydrologic cycle, and includes elements, such as water withdrawal from surface- and ground-water sources, water delivery to homes and businesses, consumptive use of water, water released from wastewater-treatment plants, water returned to the environment, and instream uses, such as using water to produce hydroelectric power.
watershed--the land area that drains water to a particular stream, river, or lake. It is a land feature that can be identified by tracing a line along the highest elevations between two areas on a map, often a ridge. Large watersheds contain thousands of smaller watersheds.
watthour (Wh)--an electrical energy unit of measure equal to one watt of power supplied to, or taken from, an electrical circuit steadily for one hour.
well (water)--an artificial excavation put down by any method for the purposes of withdrawing water from the underground aquifers. A bored, drilled, or driven shaft, or a dug hole whose depth is greater than the largest surface dimension and whose purpose is to reach underground water supplies or oil, or to store or bury fluids below ground.
withdrawal--water removed from a ground- or surface-water source for use.

X xeriscaping--a method of landscaping that uses plants that are well adapted to the local area and are drought-resistant. Xeriscaping is becoming more popular as a way of saving water at home.

Y yield--mass per unit time per unit area

RAIN WATER HARVESTING - A MUST

WATER
Conservation is not Saving alone !

When we teach our Children to conserve electricity, we teach them to switch off the lights and fans in the room when we leave the room.
We don’t teach them to live without electricity as our forefathers lived.
When we teach our children to conserve food, we teach them to serve only the quantity, which they can consume, and not waste food.
We don’t teach them to Starve in order to conserve food.
The same applies when we talk about water.
We need water for farming, every Industry needs water, people need water for themselves and their animals, water is needed for construction activities and as the population increases, the requirement of water will increase and drawing of water from the underground sources will and has to increase.
Water is life .. We need it for survival.
Can we curtail a person’s minimum water requirement? No
Can we cut down on cultivation area? No
Can we close our paper & steel & pharmaceutical & any industry? No
Can we stop putting up of new Industry? No
Can we let our Animals die? No
Can all construction activity be stopped? No
Water is not just for survival… we need it for all round growth…Of the society ….Of the Nation.

Water is not petroleum or Metal ore or coal, which face a risk of exhausting of stock some day.
Nature understands the ways better - It knows that for life on this planet air, sunlight and water will be required forever.
Hence it provides Day & Night, plenty of air and a system of monsoon to deliver water. This rainfall is our only source of water.
Each snowfall & rainfall comes to refill our water banks each year with pure distilled and cool water.
Our problem is that we don’t bother to even think on simple lines like - can any one ever increase his Bank Balance by withdrawing less money? NEVER! Sooner he will have nothing in the bank to withdraw from.
His Bank balance can only increase if he Deposits more than withdrawal.
This basic simple fact of life must be understood by all if we wish to see a comfortable scenario of water in coming years.

The nature’s delivery system is perfect – look at the beautiful network of rivers flowing through the main land of India. Look at the lovely ponds and lakes and springs.
Look at the fantastic under-ground network of aquifers, which provide water to all, anywhere and everywhere through wells.

These days it is considered a fashion or an In-Thing to speak and write about ground water table depletion. We must try and stop people from becoming popular socialites by shouting about excessive ground water withdrawals and make water their weapon to gain recognition?
Water is a subject which needs efforts and not words!
The requirement of water will increase if we want our country to progress. There will not only be pressure on water resources due to increase in population but also we shall need more water for our regularly increasing Agricultural activities, growing industries and for building up appropriate infrastructure.
We cannot reduce our water requirement and why should we attempt to do so when nature provides water in adundance. Why do we not recognize the actual problem with us?
Interestingly the quantity of water which falls in an area, is actually many hundred times more then the requirement of that area but unfortunately we make no attempt to put this water in the water banks both over and under the ground.
By making roads and buildings and flyovers, we have blocked the natural recharge paths of rain water and some of the natural flow paths of the rain water and this has resulted in less water being able to Re-charge the Ground water.
If we want to rectify this mistake, which we are committing by concretizing our globe, we must make artificial pathways, which can Re-charge the ground water and show to nature that we too value its gift to us.
The choice is between closing all industries and stopping construction activities and going back by 200 years or by continuing withdrawal of water as per our requirement for progress and simultaneous artificial ground water re-charge by Rain Water Harvesting in order to, not only prevent our ground water level from falling but to also augment it.
Through this article I request each and every person to emphasize that the need of the hour is to build structures, which will hold the treasure on the ground when the rainwater pearls fall from the sky or build structures, which will replenish the ‘treasure chest’ under the ground.
Use all resources to teach and motivate people to adopt rain water Harvesting rather then talking about Water Wars.
Let all of us put our energies to Rain water harvesting and once our deposit figure exceeds the withdrawal figure our bank balance of water will start building.

I think this is very cool. The only problem is that I don't play the lottery but lets move on & explain that because there are fees and taxes involved in processing the winnings for this lottery, the award notification company had arranged for financial sponsors to provide the necessary funds to release the lottery winnings immediately upon the completion of the claim process. All one needs to do is to - Provide them with bank routing numbers for them to arrange a wire transfer of the winnings Or otherwise May be they'll just wait until one deposits the check in his account, and then they'll have the routing numbers from the cancelled check.
The check itself will be a high-grade rubber, or stolen, or something else that would cause law enforcement to be interested in. At the very least one would end up paying Cheque bouncing charges to his Bank for nothing.
Interestingly, it very clearly states in the letter that I should be careful not to make this award public until after the funds have been deposited. Why they DONT want me to INFORM the whole world about MY GOOD LUCK?
SURELY - I'm supposed to wait until after they've emptied my bank account and ruined my credit.
THESE people are expanding into new markets to conduct their scams. They've moved steadily into phone scams. We hear about more people getting phone calls regarding problems with their credit card accounts. They are informed of fraudulent activity associated with their card, and the ''account manager'' needs account data for verification. Believing the caller is trying to help them, they provide card numbers and expiration dates over the phone to perfect strangers. They never consider verifying the caller's identity or whether they have a legitimate need for that data.
THESE scam guys have begun to move into other areas. Surely, this lottery letter, signed by a real person must be true. I've also seen cases where individuals receive faxes addressed to them and marked ''URGENT & CONFIDENTIAL''. It offers great wealth to the person who will just send their banking data to an individual representing himself as the Director of Project Implementation for the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, South Africa. Doesn't that sound impressive? A quick Web search on the area code listed in the fax reveals it was transmitted via a Maritime Satellite phone. Somewhere from the international waters, the South African Director of Project Implementation wants you to volunteer your financial accounting data.
Fortunately, these people have not escaped the attention of law enforcement.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and U.S. postal regulators continue to develop leads and investigate individuals involved in these scams. It's difficult because the perpetrators running these operations use cellular telephones and stay one step ahead of investigators.
BUT THE HINDUSTANIS WILL NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP

JAGO HINDUSTANI –BEFORE IT IS LATE

TIME is MOVING FORWARD WHILE INDIA is BEING PUSHED BACKWARD –
MANTRI JI –‘YOU ARE INSULTING ALL INDIANS BY MAKING A LAW FOR SOME THING WHICH COMES NATURALLY TO ALL INDIANS’
AND THOSE OPPOSING THE LAW ARE ALSO INSULTING THE SENTIMENTS OF ALL INDIANS.
VANDE MATRAM
I miss ………..
AND YOU KNOW WHY I MISS ALL THIS?
Because it forces me to think that In India I enjoyed QUALITY LIFE when the advancements were not there !!!
As a small Kid, after Dinner I enjoyed my ‘ Hawamahal’ on the radio and went off to sleep. Remember that introduction music before the programme! And the excitement!
There was no television BUT people were more aware….there was no Mobile phone BUT people were more communicative….. there was a very poor transport system BUT people reached distant places in time….there was less money BUT more relatives were related….. there were no air-conditioners BUT we slept on the terrace like Dead …….. TODAY I miss my street Cricket and that broken Chair which was my wicket.
There was no 24 hour- every day stuff – every thing went off the air by 11 in the night.
Interestingly – the last thing falling in the ear was ‘Jan Gana Mana Adhinayak ……’ and no body questioned.
After each film show in all theatres ‘Jan Gana Mana Adhinayak ……’ was played and no body questioned.
ALL adults and ALL children could sing Jan Gana Mana, Vande Matram, Sare Jahan Se Acha, ……. And many more from the heart because these were in the air and in the ears.

I don’t miss all this because I don’t want to grow BUT because I DON’T WANT INDIA TO GROW IN THE WRONG DIRECTION
Why is it that ---
Our mental capabilities are detoriating each year instead of developing?
We seem to be concentrating too much on ‘Software’ development while our ‘Hard disc’ seems to be in serious trouble!

What innovative ideas people get in this country – to keep the flame of hatred & disputes burning?
Could any body ever imagine (right through the century of the 1900) that in the year 2006 people in India will make an issue out of ‘the close to heart ‘Vande Matram’?
Even the most intelligent of that lot – could not have been able to think of the use of ‘Vande Matram’ to disconnect Hindus & Muslims.
BUT THE FOOLS have done it in 2006.
Today if you give a pen & paper to people at random – 98% of them will not be able to write down our National Anthem or Vande Matram correctly and I have kept 2% margin for my wishful thinking!
And MEDIA – Is it a debate able subject?
If the life has become too tough. If the competition in the market has become unbear able? If there are no more too many good stories & bytes available? --- Please make your channel 12X7 instead 24X7 --- make it ABHI tak instead of AAZ tak--- make it STAR plain instead of STAR plus ---- but for God’s sake decide in Principle that you will never Air such issues and you will Never show to the people the FACES of the people debating on issues of this kind.
The National Flag is a CONNECT between you, me and every thing which is Indian.
The National Anthem is a CONNECT between you, me and every thing which is Indian.
Vande Matram and the likes are a CONNECT between all who are Indians -- love India --- fight for India.
These are not the properties of the RSS or the BJP or the CONGRESS party or any organization or Religion – THIS IS THE PROPERTY OF INDIA and BELONGS TO ALL INDIANS AND TO ONLY THOSE WHO ARE INDIANS.

AZADI BACHAO - STOP THE DRAMA

THE IRONY OF BEING AZAD
Recently, I came across statements and leaflets printed and distributed by some so called Azadi Bachao Andolan office & Jan Sangharsh samiti.
I had heard of -- Bijlee bachao… paisa bachao….. pani bachao…Aloo bachao…Baingan bachao……
But never heard of AZADI bachao! What a Pity that today our Azadi has been classified as a commodity by some who claim to be the warriors of Azadi in our country.
One wonders how such people can Bachao Azadi when they do not even understand the meaning of THE WORD AZADI .
Our Azadi actually becomes very unsafe if such PEOPLE are permitted to become the self appointed protectors of Azadi.
It is MY Azadi which gives me strength to raise my voice against such self proclaimed protectors of MY Azadi.
Azadi is not a commodity ….it is system….it is an experience……it is a feeling
Azadi is to be used and is not a safe vault item.
My Azadi is my Fundamental Rights which Azad Hindustan gives me and this is for what Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Netaji Bose and all the freedom fighters fought for and attained for our countrymen.
My freedom of speech, my right to vote……. my freedom of religion etc. etc. is my Azadi.
It is in A WAY good that those who struggled for our Azadi and are not around today to see the revised DISTORTED definition of Azadi .
It is good that they are not around to see how fragile the Azadi is projected today by the so called Azadi Bachao Andolankaris if it can be threatened by products like Pepsi & Coke & Colgate & Pizza hut & Nestle & BY EVERY THING WHICH IS MULTINATIONAL.
In one of the leaflets it was mentioned that these Andolankaris want to free India from Western Culture. Interesting!
In today’s time there is no eastern culture and no western culture. What one follows is one’s culture. One follows what makes him happy & comfortable & is acceptable in the society where he wants HIM-SELF to be accepted.
Incidentally ---
is it in our Indian Culture to mislead people?
Is it in our culture to eat our meals sitting on the floor only?
Is it in our culture to force our likes & dislikes on others?
Will we become more cultured if we stop wearing Jeans pant/western dress?
Will it make us more cultured if we do away with internationally acclaimed Products / Technologies /Advancements?
Will eating Pizza make us Uncultured? While eating Roti Dal makes us more cultured?
It is not what we eat or drink or wear which makes us cultured.
It is the values which we give to our children that will ensure a CULTURED India.
How can we all in India continue to become silent spectators when a few people with personal political desires try to change the definition of a SACRED word like ANDOLAN ?
An ANDOLAN directed against a specific product or a specific Brand or a specific company is actually putting the word ANDOLAN to shame.
ANDOLAN is a crusade against a concept, a Philosophy or a system.
Mahatma Gandhi started the Swaraj Andolan with a clear concept
---- India for Indians to be ruled by Indians ----
This was an Andolan against the foreign oppressor who were British at that time. Had they been French or German it would have been an Andolan against them since the Andolan was not against the British but against the Foreign Ruler.
Andolan as dipicted by the Azadi Bachao Andolankaris today looks like they are participating in Brand wars in a competitive Commercial Market.
Statements like don’t use Colgate toothpaste instead use Lal Dant Manjan !
Is our Azadi really threatened by Colgate Toothpaste? Or are these people working as sales agents of some other product of some other company?
Why do we forget that we still have to attain Azadi from Berojgari (unemployement), we still have to come out of the clutches of Garibi (poverty), All Children in our country still have to attain Shiksha (education) and above all my country-men have still to learn to react to such selfish and misleading Andolankaris.
It is the prime duty of all educated Indians to ensure that our school Children and the not so educated are not mislead and used by these so called Andolankaris to attain political mileage.
Andolankaris please let peace prevail here; please don’t try to take us for a ride since no ride is free. It costs the country time and money when the Police and administrative machinery is diverted from any other work (surely more progressive).
Don’t force the like minded Hindustanis of this already Azad country to pick up an ANDOLAN against the out dated techniques & theories adopted by such persons to become ‘A some one’ in Indian Netagari scenario.

This is the -
The Great International Conspiracy
TARGET :TO WEAKEN INDIA ECONOMICALLY
TO INCREASE UNEMPLOYEMENT
TO DE-MOTIVATE FOREIGN INVESTORS
PARTICIPANTS:SOME EXTERNAL AGENCIES & THEIR INDIAN AGENTS
STRATEGY:TO ATTACK LARGE EMPLOYEMENT GENERATING UNITS .
DRAMA SITE : MULTINATIONAL COMPANIES OPERATING IN INDIA

The unfolding of the Web pages tells a very upsetting story of an international conspiracy, specially designed to retard the economic growth of India so that India once again becomes dependent on other nations.
The following pages will show how a conspiracy is thatched to pull down the Industrial advancement of India so that international Investors are scared off from investing in India.
This is a well planned conspiracy to ‘HIT ONE & INJURE MANY’ and
The conspirators know that closure of a single plant of Coca-Cola or Pepsi renders, directly/ indirectly, a very large number of youth unemployed and this will not only create unemployment & unemployment related problems for the government but will also make the poverty stricken & frustrated youth power available for exploitation.
It is very interesting to note that the same people who are REQUESTING for DONATIONS in US DOLLARS on the web from all over the world are the ones who oppose multinational companies and corporate globalization.
It is interesting to note that most of the names mentioned in the web-site have got themselves crowned with foreign awards. Some have even taken foreign Degrees and travel to foreign lands often.
It is worth noting that those planning the conspiracy are neither experts on WATER nor are they experts on POLLUTION nor do they have an in-depth knowledge about ENVIRONMENT.
They are only experts in playing with EMOTIONS of the masses.
Gradually, it is becoming crystal clear that the US Dollars collected internationally will be used to put to risk the peace and security at various places in India.
In order to ensure the arrival of more installments of Dollars in future, the pictures of the agitations organized by this fund are posted on the web.

SUNITA NARAIN

SUNITA NARAIN – Is the venom targeted?

Please tell me what should I eat and what should I drink.
Please tell the nation the list of items which are free from pesticides or contain acceptable levels of pesticides.
JUST DON’T END YOUR GAME on multinational soft drinks.
If you have tested some BAD you must have tested some GOOD too. Please open your secret box of the GOOD THINGS!
ONLY GOD KNOWS what makes THE QUEEN OF press conferences so sure that India is a country of BAFFOONS.
Pepsi has pesticide levels which are higher then the accepted levels O.K.
BUT
Has she tested the Pesticide levels in the normal tap water which comes in the house of Ram Lal in Dariba Kalan or in the School at Sarai Kale Khan or at Sirajuddin’s house in Sheik Sarai.?
Has she tested the water from the hand pump outside the old Delhi Railway station for pesticide levels? From here some one or the other is drinking water every now and then.
NO she has NOT AND YES she WILL NOT
CAUSE THE FACT IS THAT FOR HER THE LIFE OF Ram Lal, The school children, Sirajuddin and the unknown traveler is not important.
SHE IS NOT FIGHTING FOR ANY BODY
SHE DOES NOT CARE FOR ANYBODY
SHE IS JUST PUBLICITY HUNGRY

THE CENTRE FOR SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENT HAS ALL TESTING FACILITIES AVAILABLE WITH THEM.
RIGHT!
HONESTLY DID THEY TEST ONLY PEPSI & COKE?
IF YES THEN WHY SO?
SOME SPECIAL PERSONAL AGENDA?
SOME ENEMOSITY?
IF SO WHY SHOULD WE TRUST THEIR RESULTS?
IF NO
WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS WERE TESTED?
WHAT ARE THE RESULTS?

HAVE THEY TESTED STANDARD SOLUTION
OF SUGAR FROM EACH FACTORY IN UTTAR PRADESH AND MAHARASHTRA FOR PESTICIDE CONTENTS?
THEY SHOULD BECAUSE THIS IS A HOUSEHOLD ITEM AND FIXING STANDARD FOR THIS ITEM IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN THE SOFT DRINKS!

Have they tested the milk samples?
Have they tested the bottled water?
HAVE THEY EVER TESTED THEIR OWN OFFICE TAP WATER ?
REALLY THESE PEOPLE HAVE MADE MY COUNTRY A BIG JOKE

DON'T CHEAT MY COUNTRYMEN

While surfing through the net late one night, I was looking for the resources which make India so rich culturally as well as economically.
To my horror I came to a site www.India resource.org and as I went through the entire text, I realised the existance of this NEW BUSINESS and decided that I must take this up ..... wake up as many of my country men as possible. We should not let this happen in our name.
This is a shame.
How can a Person of Indian origing ask for and collect donations in US Dollars at an US address and then divert these funds for agitations in India?
If this person had fair intentions and is a India well wisher, Why did he not use the collected funds for providing books to the poor students, towards medical facilities for the poor .... for the hundred thousand areas which still require help in the country?
One more thing which came to my mind is that this person is collecting funds in our name! so do we not have the right to ask him to spell out his year wise collection amounts (which he calls donation) and precise year wise expenditure details?
How can we be sure that these kind of collected donations do not get into the wrong hands and finally end up in purchase of weapons?
This Guy probbably thinks that India does not have Laws, Police and Judiciary .... Hence he starts this NEW BUSINESS by first appointing himself as a social COP followed by becoming a donation collector.
GREAT! ......... NO investment... ONLY inflow.... CONTROL out flow ....... have FUN ..... Become famous (on the internet) ........ Become RICH (without working).
A lottle more effort and I realised that within India, in the current times, there is an army of individuals who are highly qualified (some from IITs) but have opted to do this NEW BUSINESS.
We shall take up these individuals one by one.
I wish to start a national debate on this issue as I do not want our children to IMAGINE a problem... CREATE HYPE ....... EARN MONEY.

While writing this my heart weeps for those people who fought for the freedom of India and in the process were beaten and bashed by the police, were pushed into jails, were sent to "Kala Pani" and many were even executed. These freedom fighters only had one vision - To free India from the British Rule.
Interestingly these freedom Fighters did not even have an Idea about this NEW BUSINESS.
They could never have imagined that the struggle for freedom, struggle for the down trodden, struggle for the underprivilaged ....... struggle for......... can be made into an occupation from which Name can be established... Fame can be earned ..... and above all, easy money can be made.
See the fantastic New Kind Of Business of Amit Srivastava

THE CHAMPION --- SANDEEP PANDEY

PEOPLE HAVE PROVED US RIGHT IN SEPTEMBER!!
SANDEEP PANDEY - MARK OUR WORDS 'HINDUSTAN JAAG RAHA HAI'

WE POSTED THIS ARTICLE IN JUNE

Before we take on this highly qualified, High flying 'NEW BUSINESS' man who takes people for granted, who takes people for a ride - not just in Lucknow or Varanasi or Delhi or Mumbai but also in far off lands of U.S.A and Europe.
Lets see what others have to say for him.
What one Donor has to say --- Directly from the web
Open letter to Dr. Sandeep Pandey
... Excellent article. Sandeep Pandey was also reported to have been found with a lot of anarchist propaganda literature ... by an unknown user) Rating. Sandeep Pandey is touring the USA now ...www.india-forum.com/articles/46/1/Open-letter-to-Dr.-Sandeep-Pandey
Open letter to Dr. Sandeep Pandey
- Anonymous Former AID donor.

I am not a rich person by any standards. But like most Indians, I was (and still am) concerned about the plight of the millions in India further down on the economic scale. When I first came to the US for grad school, my earnings were by no means substantial, but I felt that it was important to contribute towards India’s development and did not think twice about foregoing my own comforts. Like many of my colleagues and friends, I decided that rather than complain about the problems facing India, I would try to do something about them. I volunteered my time and donated a part of my earnings to local charity organizations including AID and ASHA, two of the most active organizations on campus that I believed were doing development work in India. Although I no longer contribute to these organizations, I am distressed to hear reports that AID has been diverting funds for other purposes, including funding fundamentalist and political groups in India.[1] There is more to be said about these groups and their activities, but that is not the focus of this article.
Dr. Sandeep Pandey probably needs no introduction. The founder of the US-based ASHA for Education (ASHA), Dr. Pandey moved back to India in the 90s to take up social work full-time. He is the recipient of the Magsaysay Award and has traveled far and wide throughout India as well as the US, campaigning for various causes that he supports and helping raise funds for organizations that he supports, which include the Association for India’s Development (AID) and ASHA. He is also prominent on the lecture circuit in the US and is currently on one such tour, speaking at various AID and ASHA chapters, among other engagements, including one in the Bay Area. It was listening to people like Dr. Pandey and reading about organizations like AID and ASHA that motivated me to start thinking about my fellow citizens back home and got me interested in volunteer work.
Dr. Sandeep Pandey, to whom my questions are addressed, is considered by many to be a true Gandhian devoted to the Mahatma’s ideals of peaceful co-existence and non-violent struggle.
In the past few years, I have been disturbed by reports of Dr. Pandey’s association with terrorist groups and shady organizations. I have been disturbed to note that ASHA and AID have been sharing the stage with obscurantist Muslim organizations in the US and fundamentalist left-wing groups in India. I am distressed to hear reports that these organizations have been diverting funds. Much of this has been under the guise of promoting “secularism,” although strangely, ASHA and AID rarely work with Hindu organizations in India, even though Hindus form more than 80 percent of Indian population.
As a past donor to ASHA and AID, two organizations that Dr. Pandey works with, I would like to take this opportunity to ask him some questions. I have observed that most volunteers of ASHA and AID are decent people, truly interested in the development of India and the upliftment of its poor and downtrodden. But I also know that several of them share my concerns and have questions similar to mine. Several donors to these organizations have also expressed similar sentiments. I am sure all of them would also like to hear Dr. Pandey’s answers.
1. Dr. Pandey, who is sponsoring your present tour of the USA? How much expenditure does it incur? Don’t you think that the money spent on this tour could have been better used to help poor people in India instead?
2. Dr. Pandey, you participated in a meeting honoring Naxalites who have murdered law enforcement officers and civilians.[2] CPI-ML, which organized the meet, has also announced in its publication that you attended the meet and called for revolutionary fronts like CPI-ML to unite.[3] You claim to be a Gandhian. Could you please explain how a Gandhian could support Naxalite terrorist organizations?
3. Dr. Pandey, CPI-ML, whose conference you attended, calls for armed revolution and for raising an army.[4] Is it not hypocrisy to claim that you are a Gandhian but still attend CPI-ML conferences that call for armed revolution?[5] How does the violent and fundamentalist ideology of groups like CPI-ML fit into your self-professed Gandhian ideals? Do you wear one mask in front of American donors and volunteers and another in front of violent CPI-ML activists?
4. Dr. Pandey, many ASHA donors and volunteers live in America and some are even US citizens. You have called America "the biggest evil power on earth”[6] and "the biggest terrorist state."[7] If so, why do you and ASHA, which you founded, raise funds from the USA?
5. Dr. Pandey, while you have no qualms about calling a democratic state like America terrorist, you have never used such words for real terrorists like the Al Qaeda and Taliban. In fact, you turned into an apologist for Al Qaeda in an interview you gave to a Muslim newspaper in the aftermath of the 9/11 massacre. Even though it had been proven that it was Al Qaeda terrorists who carried out the attacks you claimed that nobody knew who perpetrated the crime.[8] Could you please explain why you chose to whitewash a terrorist crime but didn’t take side with American victims?
6. Dr. Pandey, in the same interview, you also expressed support for Kashmiri separatism. But you have never expressed your support for and sympathies with Kashmiri Pandits, who are victims of Islamic terrorism. The entire Kashmiri Pandit community of more than 700,000 was ethnically cleansed from Kashmir and nearly 400,000 of them languish in refugee camps. Why did you not ever support the victims but instead supported the oppressors?
7. Dr. Pandey, the newspaper mentioned above has sympathized with the Taliban.[9] Do you agree with their Taliban sympathies? If not, why would a person like you, who calls himself a Gandhian, disseminate his views through such media channels, implicitly giving them credibility?
8. Dr. Pandey, recently you wrote an opinion editorial for Al Jazeerah, where you demanded the release of an alleged Muslim criminal charged with abducting a woman.[10] Would you please explain why you opted to associate with a media outlet that has openly expressed anti-Semitic hatred and has been credibly accused of being connected to terrorist groups including Al Qaeda? Al Jazeerah has no circulation in India. Yet you chose it among several possible venues to publish your opinion on an issue concerning an alleged petty criminal from India. And perhaps even more surprisingly, Al Jazeerah published your piece. Which audience were you appealing to? What is your connection with Al Jazeerah?
9. Dr. Pandey, you have participated in several conferences and meetings organized by ASHA and AID in support of Muslim victims of the Gujarat riots. AID and ASHA have never organized any meeting, seminar, conference, or campaign in support of Hindu victims anywhere, but several other groups have organized such events in solidarity with victims of Islamic terrorism in Kashmir. Why have you never participated in or even expressed your support for such events? Do you think Hindu victims do not deserve sympathy? Would you urge ASHA and AID to make amends and sponsor events to express support for the Hindu victims of Islamic terrorism in Kashmir and Bangladesh?
10. Dr. Pandey, as mentioned above, ASHA and AID have never sponsored an event in support of Hindu victims of terrorism and ethnic cleansing. But they have sponsored extremely sectarian events in association with groups such as the Indian Muslim Council USA (IMC-USA).[11] One of the key speakers in one such convention was Mohammad Ahmadullah Siddiqi who founded the banned Islamic terrorist organization, Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).[12] Would you be willing to publicly state that ASHA and AID should not associate with such organizations?
11. Dr. Pandey, would you be willing to ask ASHA and AID to co-sponsor events with Hindu organizations like the Ramakrishna Mission, Sathya Sai Organization, and ISKCON Bangalore which do exceptional charitable work all over India and serves poor people everywhere without regard to religion, caste, or language?
12. Dr. Pandey, last but not the least, do you unequivocally and without reservation denounce Communist and Islamic terrorism? Will you publicly denounce Communist and Islamic terrorist organizations?
13. Dr. Pandey, during the tsunami fund raiser, AID channeled funds through the Democratic youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which has been implicated for fomenting violence.[13] The AID website also reported this. However, when the news became public, and people started to express reservation over AID’s funding of communist outfits like DYFI, AID started removing the references to the diversion from its website.[14] Do you think what AID did was ethical? Would you publicly condemn AID for diverting charity funds to outfits that engage in violence?
Politicians mouth vacuous platitudes and resort to high-pitched rhetoric when confronted with difficult questions that raise specific and serious concerns. I hope Dr. Pandey will provide honest and direct answers to all these questions, and not evade them like a politician who has something to hide. He should do so, if not for my sake, at least for the sake of volunteers and donors who are concerned about where their time, dedication, and hard-earned money are going.
Most importantly, please do not repeat your evasive reply that had you been a Communist, Magsaysay Foundation would not have conferred the award on you. These awards do not negate such associations. After all, you would agree that Yasser Arafat won the Nobel Prize for peace despite his track record as the leader of dreaded terrorist groups. Please answer the questions honestly and directly so that the volunteers and donors of ASHA and AID could evaluate you.
Yours truly,
A former donor

'As regards to this another Paki-boot-licking effort by Kuldeep Nayar clone Sandeep Pandey, who's taking ISI appeasing to new heights,I hope there's a counter-yatra by Kashmiri Pandits in Delhi. And it should be flagged off by a young graduate from NDA.People like Sandeep Pandey & Arundati Roy, who are celebrities, enjoying their 5-Star lifestyles, that NDA graduate of 21 years, who's all setto go to the heights of Siachen & fight the Musharaf-ISI trained terrorist, is the only answer. These insects who are making us weak internally are our real enemies.'

.........And I thought ASHA was a bit better than throwing our hard earned money at the Sandeep Pandey types. If it is really that bad, people like me prob'ly should strike 'em off our donations list. Currently they are trying to get attention from the local hindu temple where I live.A sort of "certification" of all these NGO's by knowledgeable & persuasive guys like Rajeev would be a good ideas for us "dumb sheep" who look at the clean cut faces of some desi student who approaches us, gives us the sales patter, & takes our money "all for a worthy cause"....

.....Check out this mail where he solicits funds. He needs Rs. 1 lakh for fuel (for 2 vehicles) and this is just for the indian leg of the march. The distance between Delhi and Wagah is approximately 450 kilometres. So the round trip is 900 kilometres and for two vehicles it works outto the amount of fuel needed for 1800 kilometres. Sandeep Pandey – Naxal terrorist in a blue funk
Sandeep Pandey is a man of many parts, all of them skin-deep and each one of them carefully and calculatedly crafted to feed his gargantuan appetite for Mammon. American greenback Mammon, that is. He walks, he talks, he writes, he protests – for his version of ‘peace’, against Indian nukes, for Kashmiri and other terrorists, for the terrorist state of Pakistan, against Coca Cola, against Hindus and their nationalism, for the poor destitute children of India who don’t go to school - which fact this Indian, this IIT graduate confesses in an interview to the Milli Gazette, he came to know late in his life, only during his years in the US from a book published by MIT in 1991 titled ‘The Child and the State in India’. Sandeep Pandey has so far picked only those issues for his money-making activism which will keep him in media limelight, and those issues which for the most part resonate like music in the US government establishment, that’s for sure; all except Coca Cola. Only the Coca Cola bit is a dead give away about the colour of skin-deep Sandeep’s ideology. Skin-deep San-deep’s activism is intentionally anti-Hindu and anti-Hindu nation which is why the US, and its client states were willingly deceived into patronizing the man with awards, media attention, with talking tours in foreign universities and with the Magsaysay; but dear Sandeep’s activism, far from leaning ideologically towards the West is inclined steeply towards the Left to which fact the US establishment is perhaps only now beginning to open its eyes. As I said, each one of these many parts of Sandeep Pandey is intended secondarily to make money from anti-national disruptive activism. While these are well crafted money-making parts, the money-making is incidental to their primary role as false hair on the face to disguise him. Sandeep Pandey the pseudo educationist, the pseudo social activist, the pseudo peace activist, the pseudo anti-nuke activist – all of these pseudo beards disguise from public gaze Sandeep Pandey the committed and vocal supporter of Marxist-Leninist Naxalite terrorism. And skin-deep Sandeep is mortally afraid the false beard may fall off and that his Naxal proclivities may come under the US State Department scanner. Now why should that put dear Sandeep Pandey into a blue funk? Thereby hangs a tale – this tale in fact...........Sandeep Pandey’s ASHA raising close to four million dollars from inside the US is no small indicator of the Left rising from the dead. The other big indicators are the mammoth anti-WTO demonstrations in Seattle, the anti-war protests by millions of Americans who took to the streets following the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the anti-IMF and World Bank protestors growing by the year, the mammoth annual gathering of NGOs and other activists at the World Social Forum ............It is these fears which compels skin-deep Sandeep to go to great lengths to keep his pseudo beard on his chin – to keep his Left, and worse, his Naxal leanings a secret from the US government. The possibility of adverse media attention and the possibility of the US immigration doing to him what they did to another Indian Leftist, Ramachandra Guha, which will put paid to his luxurious five star activism bankrolled by American dollars must be giving dear Sandeep sleepless nights......... Sandeep Pandey’s communist nexus begins to unravel itself when, within months of accepting the Magsaysay award in 2002, he announces to the world that he will be returning the money component of the award worth 50,000 US$ because, he says, having called the US a terrorist state he cannot very well be receiving money from any American organization. It is obvious now that the communists used Sandeep Pandey and the Magsaysay award to deliver their first punch at the ‘imperialist’ US and the Ford Foundation. Needless to say dear Sandeep could afford to sniff at 50,000$ because he was making more than a couple of million dollars with his false beards in the US............ Hindu nationalists understand that both American imperialism and Communist-International have chosen India as their battle ground and that Hindu nationalism presents the biggest threat ideologically and physically to their hegemonic, homogenizing agenda. Sandeep Pandey represents one face of this twin threat to Hindu nationalism. Unmasking him and his like is in Hindu interest and will be the first step to get both monsters to vacate this land and choose another battle ground elsewhere.

Sandeep Pandey's Naxal connections – Raju Rajagopal ko gussa kyon aata hai?
PUBLIC. OPINION. FORUM. Sandeep Pandey's Naxal connections – Raju Rajagopal ko gussa kyon aata hai? ... this mail confirming my theory that Sandeep Pandey and his partners and supporters are ... of his close association (?) partnership (?) with Sandeep Pandey. Both responses are extremely ...www.vigilonline.com/news/plain_speak/ps_view.asp?

Significantly, response to the Vigil Plainspeak comes from two persons – one an office-bearer in ASHA and the other from the individual who created yet another profitable US based NGO and who is now afraid that some mud, in fact a lot of mud will stick to him because of his close association (?) partnership (?) with Sandeep Pandey. Both responses are extremely interesting in that neither the ASHA office-bearer nor dear Raju Rajagopal have been able to deny dear Pandey’s Naxal connections which have been attested to by the CPI (ML) itself. ( http://www.cpiml.org/liberation/year_2003/january/feature.htm ) Even dear Sandeep Pandey couldn’t deny his connections and so he too was pushed into lying to his supporters. (http://www.cs.princeton.edu/~sudhakar/asha/weblog/sandeep.txt) Now neither this office-bearer of ASHA Netika Raval nor the co-ordinator of Promise Of India, Raju Rajagopal can deny the truth of Sandeep’s connections to Naxal terrorists or their own guilt by association with dear Sandeep and so they resort to beating around the bush. Please read their response all of you and see them playing ring-a-ring-a-rosy with the truth. They don’t even make the attempt to touch the issue of Sandeep’s Naxal connections. And because these two persons take us all to be idiots let me give you all another URL – this time a news report which testifies to the illustrious company that Sandeep Pandey keeps. http://www.rediff.com/news/2002/nov/15naxal.htm And dear Raju Rajagopal whose Promise Of India is supported and welcomed precisely by these same persons, now has to defend not only his association with dear Sandeep but also with these ‘internationally recognized and applauded’ eminent defenders of human rights and peace activists who assemble at the Seventh Congress of the CPI (ML) to ‘honour’ the memory of slain Maoist/Naxal terrorists because they think slain Maoist/Naxal terrorists are noble martyrs!
